On June 8, we presented a seminar about many of the unique challenges that women face when it comes to their finances called OWN Your Future. It was a great evening with some great discussions.
We talked about having your own financial voice and that a woman’s financial concerns are as valid as a partner’s. It is important to be part of the conversation and to communicate your concerns and goals to your partner and advisor.
There was also a great conversation about understanding the family’s finances as often one partner performs all the family’s financial tasks and obligations. It is critical that both partners understand where important documents, account numbers, contact numbers (for lawyers, accountants, financial advisors, etc.) are located. Having a copy of the monthly financial obligations in a safe and known place can also be extremely helpful. Not knowing what bills to pay and who to call for help can be extremely frustrating and confusing if there is a need to take over due to separation, sickness, or even death. To help organize this type of information, we have a free Personal Record Keeper available. Just call or email and ask for it.
This is just a sample of the informative topics we covered. If you would like more information on the financial challenges women can face, please contact us. If your community group or workplace are interested in hosting an OWN Your Future or any of our other seminars, let us know. We love increasing financial knowledge in the community.
We have three other seminars coming up this year on financial literacy for young adults, estate planning, and common beneficiary mistakes with guest speaker Peter Wouters. Information about these seminars will be posted soon, but you can always reach out to us for more information.
